What's this ?! Chimera/Netscape ?

toast

Gone !
Strange thing...

I deleted the Application Support/Mozilla folder, then I tried to open Chimera 0.6 ... and this is what I got:

- Chimera unexpectedly quits
- A strange software I NEVER installed, called TalkBack, launches
- It's a Netscape thing ! WTF ?

See attachment.
Any answers ?

PS: sorry for big attachment. It seems PDF screenshots are 300ppp now, and GraphicConverter had some problems with the file... grrr... can't we get JPEG for once ?

More: I downloaded Chim0.6 again, dropped it in my Apps again, and :

- it doesn't create any Profile for me
- it crashes when I try to fiddle with bookmarks

Could someone attach his Application Support/Chimera folder here so I can use this browser again and trash MSIE ? Thanx.

As of late, TalkBack has come up on Chimera quit for me too...I thought it was 0.6.0, but could be a nightly build from earlier too...

do you have netscape 7, cause i think it's a netscape app, and because netscape en chimera have the same structure/code?/... it thinks that chimera is netscape

-correct me if i'm wrong

chimera is a build of mozilla, and if im not mistaken talkback is the way mozilla dev's easily debug the program. the people developing Chimera could have easily enabled this feature with one of their releases without you noticing. It's nothing harmful i assure you.

its on the chimera site, talkback is to notify them of any bugs in chimera, even though it says its for netscape. I think you can disable it though.

I just disabled it, actually.

BUT I still can't reinstall Chimera correctly: version 0.6 won't create me a new profile in my Chimera folder... *I said everywhere Chim' was great, am I regretting this ?*

did you try deleting everything having to do with chimera (the app, preferences, application support, etc.)? do a search for everything with chimera in it.

delete the chimera folder in application support. I think that should help.

Personally I use Chimera as my default browser and as I use it I think it's perfect, I even use it for my web design class at school. Never had any problems with it, although I can't remember how to get the bookmarks out of my toolbar :-\

right-click and click delete? I don't have the bookmark toolbar, it got in my way. I have a dock in dragthing for my bookmarks.

as far as I've gathered, Netscape 7 is based on older Mozilla source, and the talkback you are referring to is just web-installer... if you've downloaded the small installer, it connects to some servers and downloads stuff it needs/installs in order for chimera to work.

I have some (good) news:

• Chimera finally reinstalled. I had forgotten to trash the (probably corrupted) preferences file.

• The Talkback stuff is evoked in the Chimera Release Notes :

• Added Talkback, which reports data about crashes back to Netscape.

However, it would be great if we could chosse whether or not we want this to install with Navigator. Would be more honest IMHO.

View-->Show Sidebar
Shows you all your bookmarks. Toolbar bookmarks are in the Toolbar Bookkmarks folder. Select a bookmark and either hit the delete key on your keyboard or the delete button in the Sidebar.
