Where did my prefs go ? What's with Apple ?

- My girlfriend wakes up and clicks on Mail… the application suddenly shuts down. Then, when reopened, asks for importing mail form other mailboxes... all prefs lost.
- Same thing with iTunes... a fatal error kills iTunes Music Library… all prefs lost.
- After reboot, I realize Finder prefs have vanished too. WTF ?

- I still had some space on my disk
- I made an fsck: bad BSD file types. All repaired.
- Now i'ts fine. What happened ? Any ideas ?

Not only those two applications: the other ones that were opened at this moment lost Prefs too ! AAAAAAARGH!
OS9 never did that me...

something has screwed your preferences---I've lost my internet prefs on few occasions, along with all system-prefs

Have you installed any thing before this happened?
Have you run the Disk Utility?

Did you rename the Library folder ?

None of all those.

No Disk Utility, no Backup (?) application, no Lib. renaming/tweaking, no installer run.

Just a download.

A download of Adobe InDesign 2.01 updater which I did not run yet. No HP stuff on my iMac.

hmm, when I lost my prefs it was wget that crashed my entire system...but I doubt that you weren't using selfbuilt wget hmm...

Did you let the computer go to sleep before the download was done?

Run the Disk Utility and let it make all the repairs it recommends.
