I need some advice ....

What would be a good/high quality internal HD for my iBook? I'd like to spend around $100-150, and want to have something that is higher quality, very reliable, and fast! Don't need a huge HD, maybe 120 GB max. I'm more concerned with the quality than the size.

My computer is an iBook G4 (purchased June 2004), running OS X 10.4.11. I'm also adding a one GB stick of RAM.

Thanks!

Just find a ATA 2.5 inch drive, there are a ton of them.

Maxtor, Western Digital and Seagate have always served me well.

Tada!

Did you even check your link? Almost all are SATA drives listed there. He is looking for ATA and like I stated earlier they are getting scarce. Also he was looking for a faster drive and I haven't seen an 2.5" ATA drive listed that was over 5400RPM.

I sure did!! Hence the reason why I provided what he should look for.

icemanjc - maxtor (for example) doesn't make laptop size drives.
As djackmac suggested - there is not a 'ton' of 2.5-inch ATA hard drives available any more, more like a handful.
There is Western Digital, and Seagate, true enough, but seems like each month there's fewer and fewer sizes available. Some manufacturers, such as Hitachi, have basically abandoned that connection for laptops, with only a couple of capacities, and even those are hard to find. Look up 7200 rpm ATA 2.5-inch drives. Your link takes you to a few that appear to be in stock. I went through this a few months ago. Companies don't actually have them when you try to order them.

I haven't been able to find anything faster than 5400rpm either. I think the problem with heat would be less with the slower drives though, which is a good thing. My iBook runs quite warm! I keep a good fan blowing on the laptop (sitting on an iCurve). The fan also blows on the external drive, and keeps both very cool all the time.

I'm seriously considering going with a smaller drive. My uncle reccommended an 80GB HD, which he says will last longer.

I'll be getting another external HD, most likely 750GB 7200rpm for back-ups. Right now I have a 300GB external, with around 140GB of space left on the second partition (about 24GB empty space on the first partition).

I don't think you'll find a 7200RPM disk smaller than 160GB anyway, but I recommend you definitely get 5400 instead of 4200.
