Which Mac Mag?

Which Mac magazine due tou read? I read Macworld UK and US and Aust, Macaddict bla bla. I'm tired of purchasing 4 mags a month.

I will just have MacAddict as they are the Cheapest in Australia and have the less adverts!

MacAddict is a very great magazine, but quite expensive in Switzerland... I do the regular follow-up with MacWorld (US version).

MacAddict is always 96 pages per issue, and they try to advertise the fact that it comes with a CD with every issue... but its always useless because the freeware/shareware on it is months old already.

I don't find it that great of a value, but at Amazon.com you can purchase MacAddict without the CD and save some cash.

I dont want crappy CDs or Adverts.....I just want good reading (articles) by witty, insightful, funny, and informative writers.

MacAddict, but that's gonna go bye-bye when my subscription runs out (I've been there since issue 2.) MacOSX.com keeps me busy not to mention all the other sites on the 'net that I don't have time for.

But, it is nice to read some material away from the monitor every-once-in-a-while. :p

When I bought & reg'ed my G4, I chose MacAddict. And when I bought my 15 studio display, I chose Macworld.

For the later, I choose.....poorly. Man...that's such a crap mag! No excitement to it! *l* I think my 6 free issues have run out now...don't think I'll subscribe to MacAddict....I'll keep my money and uh....then immediately spend it on the Bluetooth Adapter! :p

'MacFormat' used to be good here (UK) and was eminently readable for the Mac man in the street, but has gone the way of all computer magazines in the last year, with more ads and fewer features. We can now get hold of 'MacAddict' - and it's certainly worth the little bit extra we have to pay for imports.

I very rarely buy the paper magazines - I download the updates I need so the cds.. ummh.. aren't so updated. Same is valid for news and rumors.. The last computer magazines I bought.. well.. I bought them because I got Mandrake and FreeBSD full releases for 5 $ ..

Now I'm though waiting for Macformat UK March number.. - At least there should be one interesting article in that number! :D ;)

I used to read MacWorld for years. In recent times I found the magazine's article less and less stimulating. I read enough on line now to feed my Mac News and info. I did briefly subscribe to Mac Addict and found the magazine to be well done. Like everyone that has posted, the cd's are essentially useless.

I used to read MacUser, but they were subsumed by MacWorld...

But to tell you the truth... Everything I read about in MacWorld these days is the same news I read on MacOSX.com 1-2 months earlier...

:D

MacAddict is def the best mag IMO. I used to read Mac Home Journal back in the day and it was good as well. MacWorld doesn't seem to have any character and is littered with ads.

Applicando is definitely the best Mac magazine in Italy... if you don't care about old demos and updates on the CDs.

My two €cents.

I love the MacAddict CD's, and here's why:
1) Trying out many programs is important for my job
2) I am posting here from school because I currently have no internet connection at home.
3) When I did have an internet connection at home, it was dial-up, which is too slow for DLing many apps.
Of course, if I had a high-speed connection at home, I would use VersionTracker, because it exposes me to more new software every day than I could possibly imagine, and downloading would be easy.
As far as the magazine goes, I find the articles to be far more helpful and relevant than most of what is found in MacWorld (US). I think the problem is audience: MacWorld has to cater to their traditional, proffessional audience while MacAddict gets to have more fun with their Mag. This can be seen by the type and tone of feedback MacWorld gets...they still have a large # of readers mired in OS 9 and 'happy' there.
