Who uses themes?

Snowball

Switched the Other Way
And, out of curiosity, why?
I started using Alumite X a month ago and (sorry Apple) haven't used Aqua since! I love it for my design work because it is simple (has little contrast), and still pretty at the same time. Apple's Aqua was really refreshing at first, but got... well... kinda boring. :) At least they tried to make the Graphite version of Aqua, but Aluimite runs circles around it.

I would love it if Apple made it easier to theme OS X with a built in theme switcher (remember Appearance?) or at least make modifying themes less difficult.

10.2 will break all current theme software. Before you try to use Duality, MetamorphX, etc, under OS X, back up your HD.

I am using a theme called "Milk" in 10.1.5...I like it a lot...it is great for design work as it has no lines and all the annoying colors. However, when I move to Jaguar I will probably not use any themes. I really like the new look from the screenshots :)

I just wish Apple would build in a line-less theme into OS X. So you can choose Aqua or Graphite with lines or Aqua or Graphic without lines. But, I don't think this will happen as Apple is not too crazy about themes...

Maybe the fact that 10.2 doesn't run the current themes means that they are completely revamping the UI for Quartz Extreme? and maybe, just maybe, Apple will change their stance on themes, and more complicated 3rd party themes will be possible?

Yup, I didn't think so either. :)

BTW martinatkinson, there is another theme like Milk called SmoothStripes or something that is the normal Aqua (well, the 10.0-10.1 Aqua) but without the stripes, if you are interested...

Metamorph X screwed up my system, I had to re-install OS X. Duality worked like a charm, but I'm back on Aqua. IMO that's the only theme that doesn't grow old.

I was using themes for a while. But after a few weeks the novelty wears off and I find myself using the Blue variant of Aqua again. I don't know what it is about Aqua that keeps pulling me back. It just seems "right" some how. I dunno, it's weird.

I use a stripeless Aqua theme called Simple Aqua (IIRC) while running 10.1.5. But I find that I don't miss themes at all when running Jag beta. It just looks so gooood.
:D

lol...that is why I installed everything by hand...takes a little time, but makes sure a third party app does not screw you up...just make sure you add a "BACKUP" at the end of the file names before your replace them (ExtrasBACKUP.rsrc, BootBACKUP.pdf, etc)

Snowball, thanks for the heads up on the other theme, I think I will just stick with this one for now though, I really like it, so sleek and smooth :)

I'm a milk theme user as well...and I must say that it's not the same going back to Aqua once I've gotten used to this theme and Alumite X...the lines drive me crazy now. I also think the default aqua folders look tacky in that aqua blue...I like the milk icons a lot more.

The ONLY theme I use is for X windows, and I use window maker. I have never found a theme (OS X or older) that didn't get in the way. Personal preference I guess.

To put a twist on a old adage/proverb/whatever: I theme, you theme, we all theme for iTheme.

OK, that was dumb :).

I'm using the new Jaguar theme in graphite, because its all shiny and I like the lines.
