I would appriciate help from anyone who might have any ideas about this problem I am having, its driving me crazy !

I have one file in my Trash, its called 'Windows Media Player' and its 2.1MB in size. The problem is, whenever I try to 'Empty Trash' I get an error message saying 'The operation cannot be completed because the file wmphelp.htm is locked'.

I dont know what or where 'wmphelp.htm' is (its certainly not in the trash folder) and I dont know what its got to do with the file that I am actually trying to delete. (Windows Media Player).

I am using a G4 Powerbook running 10.4.6

I think the short answer is to hold down the option key while you're emptying the trash. That should "force-delete" any locked items in there.

I have a mac os x and have a problem on deleting my files. I have a window file in my trash that's giving trouble. Every time I try to delete a file, it's giving me an error message saying "can't be deleted because of wmphelp is locked". Not only I try deleting it, but also it won't let me take it out of the trash either. How can I take it out of my trash and delete? Can someone help me?

You can drag it from trash to somewhere else, e.g. your desktop.
When there, right click "get info", and check the properties under "general". If "locked" is selected, unselect that option (and make sure you can read and write on hte file). If it was locked, after the unlock you should be now able to delete it whereever it is.
