Why does iTunes split up the MP3s in my .m3u file??

Greetings,

I have created an M3U file. When iTunes 6.0 opens the URL (either manually, or when the browser throws it over), it loads each of the mp3s into its library as a separate "MPEG audio stream." Thus they are added to iTunes' playlist, and played in whatever order the playlist is set for. If it's sorted alphabetically, iTunes will play other songs from its own library if their names happen to fall between the songs in the M3U. This seems screwy to me. How can I get iTunes to sit still and play the entire M3U playlist in order? Isn't that the whole point of an M3U file??

Thanks!
