Why Does My HD Say Toshiba?

When I use Disk Utility to repair permissions, at the top of my "volume/partition tree" (or whatever it's called), it says "Toshiba" with a little HD icon. This is what I click on to repair permissions to my HD/system. What does that mean? I thought I had an Apple computer, not a Toshiba. lol

Apple doesn't make hard drives, memory, etc. They buy from different vendors.

OK, that's what I thought: The HD is a Toshiba HD. I figured it had something to do with an internal part like that under the Toshiba name.

So ... this means that Apple computers are really PC HDs. The only thing that's Apple about it is the OS. Not sure if I like that idea. lol

well, to be honest, the problem with PC's is not the parts, it's the build, and the Windows.

Toshiba have a lot of experience making hard drives.

It all depends on how you look at things. Is a BMW car still a BMW car, even if it uses electronic parts made by some company in Switzerland? Or a Peugeot 107 using a Toyota engine? Most people probably ignore those things. They don't need to or have to care. And even if they _do_ care, they still buy from the "manufacturer". For all I know, my computer is "made by Apple", although I *do* know it's probably Asustek manufacturing the MacBooks. I've replaced the Apple-supplied 60 GB drive in my MacBook with a 100 GB drive. Neither was _made_ by Apple, of course. Who cares: It's still a MacBook "made" by Apple. I don't care about that much. And no, it's _not_ just the OS. The trackpad, the keys, the white, the design and feel, the choice of parts (!!!) etc. - it's the combination that makes it an Apple computer.

Yeah, OK, that makes sense. I agree.

Someone already pointed out that the problem with PCs is not the parts, it's Windows. I was thinking the same thing when I last posted ... but didn't want to ruffle any feathers of closet Windows fans out there. :D

If you look at the actual drive, it will have the Apple logo on it, along with the name of the manufacturer. But, no, Apple does not make the hard drives. Memory is also made by a 3rd party, and most everything else, but it's not who makes it that defines it. It's how it is made.
