Why??

How come X won't install on my HD unless its the first partition and can only be as big as 8GB's cause its pissing me off big time??
 
32 bit addressing...
32 bits can describe 2 Gig, legitimately. If you group bytes into words (4 bytes together) you can now address 8 Gig. This is a hardware limit that we are running into now becausewe are using open firmware to boot. Previously we were grabbing an entire usable OS out of ROM and doing whatever we wanted.

The intel world has been dealing with this same limit for a long time. They also have much wierder partitioning issues. Be glad we've had to deal with it as little as we have. I agree it blows, but it's already fixed in all the new hardware.
