Will Apple Batteries work in G3 iBook?

Hi,

I desperately need a new battery for my G3 iBook but I notice that official G3 batteries cost about £200 from Apple Resellers who supply it as a service part.

On the Apple website they are selling batteries for dual USB 12.1" iBooks for £88.99 but when I called them they told me not to use it in a G3 iBook.

Is this true?

Judging by the price alone, the two families of batteries probably have different form factors. I doubt that the less expensive battery will fit in the bay used by the more expensive part.

Spoke to another mac expert at work and he agreed it wouldn't work, but I think the price factor is simply because G3 iBook batteries are quite old equipment now. It was the same with the Airport card for the G3 iBook, cost me £80 because it had to be sourced as a 'service part'.
