Windows Media Player 9 installation problem

So yeah, I've been trying to install wmp series 9 and I've run into an annoying problem. Essentially, the whole thing downloads fine, un-compresses fine, but when I go through the actual installation from the Windows Media Installer it messes up. As soon as I hit the "easy" install, and it starts intalling with Installer VISE, it just locks up and stops responding. Kinda in the dark about this...any ideas?

p.s. I've tried re-downloading the wmp installer, it still happens everytime
 
Never heard of VLC, so I'll try that out, thanks. However, I don't like to leave problems unfixed, so I'm still looking for a solution, hoping it's not a problem with my VISE Installer or whatever.

"Although I've never truly used a mac.." I thought this was supposed to be a mac support forum, and you've never USED a mac, that's sorta funny...lol
 
hah that is funny. I had no problem installing WMP on my Powerbook. But I'm having trouble un-installing it.
