Windows media player for X problem

It looks like it uses a non-standard Codec. I tried downloading that and it just told me that it was an invalid file. So there's something strange in the file that Windows Media Mac codecs don't nativley support.

so, there is something wrong with this version of windows media player mac, or the file itself?

this sucks, since upgrading to X, lots of things dont work... my scanner driver for one, and this.... real audio dont have a X version out yet... I dont think, so im stuck using windows medai player, which dont seem to work. :(

forgot to mention...

How come quicktime dont play these files? Or does it?

must i use real audio or windows media player, or will quicktime play it?

I have quicktime pro installed.

I thought quicktime was so great? isnt that what quicktime is for?

The jacka$$e$ in Redmond use LOTS of proprietary audio and video codecs which they only make available on Windows. The video codec for this file is available, but the audio codec is not.

It may not be Microsoft's fault (this is a shameful statement!).

If the person who did the video used a non-standard codec not found by default, then there's nothing anyone can really do.

That's why content producers should use standards like mpeg and (hopefully if mpeg-la grows up) MPEG-4 so you can play it in just about anything you want. No special codecs required.
