I have an ibook connected to a windows network through a router and cable modem. Can see other windows computers just fine - and they can see the ibook. Problem is in trying to pull up an ASP page served by one of the window xp pro machines.
With the windows computers, I just type http://computername/filename.asp in the address bar of the browser and it comes up just fine. When I try that with the ibook, it says that it can't find the server.

Any ideas?
Thanks..Dale

*nods* Windows machines on the same network almost always have a naming service in addition to DNS... usually it's discovered by the browsing service. Great for windows-only networks on the same net/subnet, etc. However, Windows is the only OS that natively supports and participates. You'll either want to:

1 - as noted, simply use the ip address
2 - wire your apple into the local network's dns (if applicable)
3 - add an entry to your apple's hosts file (/etc/hosts) to point to that machine
