Greetings,
I posted a question about a recurring "Mystery Drive Noise" last week, and a helpful responder suggested that it was most likely "Spotlight updating the catalog of the hard drive on the fly." He mentioned that I could investigate the source of the noise the next time it occurred (regularly several times a week) via the Activity Monitor.
Long story short, the noise occurred again and I launched Activity Monitor.
Under the tabbed heading "Other User Processes" there was an (app?) called WindowServer running that was utilizing a whopping 15-60% of my CPU. My question is, what is this ... and what is it doing? I guess I'm paranoid about my Mac being used to send SPAM or some other equally nefarious activity. Any info would be appreciated.
