winsock lib??

i recently did a software restore of my mac...i wiped it and started again. i backed up some apps to my external hard disk, cos i cant find their cds etc. when i try to open flash 5 it tells me it couldnt open because it couldnt find "winsock lib" - what is this??? i did a search in sherlock, and it found one "winsock lib" inside my macromedia extensions folder

As far as I know, winsock lib is an extension used by Flash. It is installed when you install the program, so, if you only saved the program's folder, you may not have it.
Try reinstalling it. If you can't find the disk, you may try downloading a trial version.
