Wiped HD; cannot install OS

I am having an issue with a G5 my buddy just gave to me. The computer had been working fine for him, he recently got a new iMac. Anyways, we wiped the hard drive and I took it to my place to do a clean install with 10.4. Upon start-up I get a screen with a folder icon that flashes between a question mark and the mac face. I have tried holding down C upon boot, no success. Any suggestions?

Dual CPU powermac G5, bought in 2003 or 04 (he thinks 2003).
Do not have original installation disk. Have retail copy of 10.4

If I hold down the option key when powering on. On the screen appears a mouse icon which I can move, as well as two icons. A circular arrow in a box, and a right-pointing arrow in a box.

IMHO, the key question here is HOW he "wiped the hard drive".

Simply deleting everything or reformatting? Possibly he reformatted as MS-DOS?

same problem I have a Dual CPU powermac G5 2.0 mhz 2gigs of memory and a new unformatted 1 t. drive I get the flashing folder on boot and need to know how to open the cd tray?(i have a windows usb keyboard)
and how to format and install my mac osx v10.5 (osx leopard) retail install dvd

1) Hold down the mouse button as the computer boots to open the CD tray.
2) Put the CD/DVD in the drive, restart the computer, then hold down the 'c' key until the system boots from the Mac OS X Install CD/DVD.

diablo thanks for the response i knew it was something simple like that but at 4 in the morning i was not in the mindset for obvious solutions..lol

I ended up pulling the whole drive out opening through the lil front hole with a paper clip and inserting dvd....lol

it worked and 45 minutes later i watched the awesome osx bootscreen for the first time ....priceless!

then i fell out...
