I have heard a lot of talk about people increasing the range on their wireless cards by attaching antennas and the like.

The iBook AirMac is totally internal, so maybe it si impossible, but does anyone know of a way to increase the range on this card?

When walking around with a friend on a windows machine, often times he was about to pick up weak signals that my mac didn't even notice.

Hrm....

Well. In order for you to attach a antenna to your WIFI card there's a spot on the card for this to plug into. I know the Airport card doesn't have it. I've checked myself. I doubt there's a USB or Firewire external antenna for WIFI but that's about your only option. Since the airport card is inside under the keyboard. Now if you really really really wanted to do so. Try getting a 3rd party WIFI card that works on your iBook. Then get a external keyboard and wala. But that seems too much of a hassle to just pick up a weak signal network. (that's probably unprotected;))

Also, I've never heard of a 3rd party WiFi card that will work in the dedicated Airport slot, only in a PC Card slot, which an iBook does not have.

Sometimes, you can gain some connection strength by reseating the Airport card in its slot, and, of course, reseating the internal antenna connector attached to the airport card
