Epson Stylus C86 Printer
Apple iBook G4 - OS X v 10.4

I have configured the Linksys to enable AppleTalk and have successfully sent a file to the printer from my iBook to the printer, but the printer prints unintelligible pages of characters. I suspect that the printer "Kind" in the printer setup is wrong. The only printer model available from the drop down menu is the EPSON Stylus C86 - Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2. I tried to download a new driver from Epson and have the C86Series_1.8bAS.dmg, but I don't know how to get this in the drop down list of printer models (or if that is the fix?).

the proper driver will correct the messed up printing, you need to reinstall the correct driver for the printer, first make sure it is the correct driver then remove the other "epson" print driver. Reinstall then restart the the system with the printer powered on before you start up your machine

I don't have that print server, so I don't think I can help with the appletalk - specific issue.

Driver - Non-postscript drivers provided by Epson are written for USB only - they bypass the OS X CUPS system and have the USB comm part written into the driver, instead of using the standard included comm protocols in CUPS. Apple tried to get around this by including the Gimp-Print (CUPS) drivers in Panther and Tiger. You must use a CUPS driver for network printing.

I recommend you use one of the other protocols supported by that print server. Others have reported success. For IP printing> LPD or IPP, make sure you enter the print server's queue name in Printer Setup. Find the server queue name in the manual (probably L1 or P1).
