Hi,
I bought a Powerbook G4 in September 2005 and have discovered that the machine doesn't detect wireless networks as well as PCs with comparable wireless network cards. For instance, I have a wireless network at home, and when I place the powerbook in the same location as a windows laptop, the windows laptop will pick up a strong enough signal to actually get a connection, while the powerbook will detect the network but not get a strong enough signal to actually enable internet browsing (only the first bar is lit). I have also found that in an environment that has several wireless networks (at home, for instance, where I can see neighbors' networks), a PC will detect more of the networks than my Mac.
Can it be that Airport on my powerbook only supports 802.11b? That would seem strange, since it was purchased in late '05. Or is airport's range inherently lesser than that of a windows wireless card for some reason? I tried checking the "Use Interference Robustness" option in Airport, to no avail.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks,
gzevspero
