WMPHELP is locked

I have a mac os x and have a problem on deleting my files. I have a window file in my trash that's giving trouble. Every time I try to delete a file, it's giving me an error message saying "can't be deleted because of wmphelp is locked". Not only I try deleting it, but also it won't let me take it out of the trash either. How can I take it out of my trash and delete? Can someone help me?

Where was the file located before it was in the Trash? Did any of the steps at MacFixIt fail? What version of Mac OS X are you running?

i tried everything that i can possibly think of and i still can't get that windows media player icon out of my trash can. is there any other way you can think of that i can clear my trash can other than using the empty button?

I don't understand how recreating your Trash folder doesn't fix this issue. The original location of the stalled file is important. And I still want to know what version of Mac OS X you're using.

i'm using 10.5.8 which i believe it's tiger. i'm sure there is a way but i seems i can't get the hang of things and i'm very sure it's something minor, i'm just missing something

i also realized something. i put another hard drive into my computer and i took the windows media from that hard drive. does that have anything to do with this situation.

Yeah Thanks man I owe you one! I think I figured out what you was talking about. the original file was from my old hard drive. so what i did, i just drag the file from the trash and back to my old hard drive. either way it's gone. thanks man.

Glad you figured that out. For future reference, the MacFixIt tutorial I linked explained how to recreate your Trash folder(s), which is not simply called "trash," noting differences between that of the startup disk and other volumes.
