WMV not playing

I have a few wmv vids on my mac. Up until recently they were all fine. When I went into the folder the all files showed the Qicktime logo on them and played using flip4mac. Now the files are just white with no logo on them and when I click to play one it brings up the message "This movie could not be opened, The file is not a movie file." I have tried reinstalling flip4mac and quicktime but I still have the same issue. Someone told me to try perian but still nothing. I am guessing this is a problem with the files but not sure how this happened or how to fix it. Can anyone help?

I have already tried them on my girlfriends mac and they work fine. New files download ok and work and the old ones work on hers too. I have also played them on my parents PC and again no issues. Just on mine.

Have you tried a different user on your Mac?
Create a new one just for that purpose...
Do those files work when logged in as that new user?

My personal opinion is Flip4Mac is junk. I use VLC and it has its bugs at times but has tons more capabilities than Flip4Mac.

Oh, really? What can VLC do on a Mac that Flip4Mac can't do?

Recording is the biggest thing I'm concerned with. But VLC also supports and records in multiple formats. With Flip4Mac I couldn't record audio at all, much less record and playback at the same time. Then on top of that on many occasions while using with FireFox, it would cause Firefox to either crash of freak out taking 100% of my CPU. Its seems like I had to clear my browser cache a couple times with every use. Also hosed out my directory structure once real good where DiskWarrior had to get it untangled. Need more examples?

Flip4Mac is commercial software. You have to pay for it:rolleyes:

This needs a little clarification:
Yes, you pay for Flip4Mac if you want the upgrade features, such as recording/authoring.
Flip4Mac WMV remains free, but is a player only.

Yeah, I was using the free version. I didn't want to take a chance on buying it with the issues I was having. Also VLC is free and still give me the recording capabilities.

I tried creating a new user but still the same result. Still bring up the same message. Any other thing you can think of that I can try. Thank you for your continued help with this.
