Word 11.1.1 vs OSX 10.3.9

Just upgraded to 10.3.9 (clean from-scratch install) and now Word keeps crashing in a random-yet-persistant fashion. Does anyone have any ideas why or more importantly, how to fix it? I've a big assignment to type up this weekend - and if I can't type it, I won't be able to qualify as a teacher on Monday!!!

Any help greatly appreciated - cheers in advance!

...sorry - btw, I've tried all the usual tricks of plist files etc to no avail.
