Word X: Toolbar buttons grayed out

Some of my toolbar buttons are grayed out in Word. Buttons like Zoom, Save, Print etc are all grayed and cannot be used. However, I can use the menubar via File->Save for instance. This means that the problem is not with the function but with the toolbar itself. For another example, I can change font using the menubar, but the toolbar is grayed out so I cannot change font using the toolbar.

Problem for me is that some things can only be done with the toolbar, like zoom.

Can somebody help me? Why are my toolbar buttons grayed in Word?

Have you run the Office update? What version of office and OS X are your running?

I am running jaguar 10.2.1

I have updated Office X once since its release.

I am using a Tibook 667mhz

please help
