Would your trust 2GB RAM upgrade for $40?

Newegg.com is advertising a 2 GB RAM upgrade for the MacBook Pro for $40 (after mail-in rebate). Meanwhile, Crucial offers a similar upgrade for $80. Can anyone think of a reason why I should order from newegg rather than Crucial or is this a no-brainer? Thanks and happy holidays!~

Newegg is reliable -- yes. However, that's like saying that Best Buy is reliable, so a cheap-o Audiovox stereo from there is reliable (Audiovox is a piece of crap, by the way).

Newegg is a retailer and a retailer only, and the quality of their service does not mean that the hardware brands they sell are reliable. They sell everything from the greatest brands you can ask for all the way down to the biggest pieces-of-crap you could ask for.

To answer your question, it would completely depend upon the brand of RAM you're purchasing from Newegg.

I concur. It's more about the type/brand over the cost.

Prices of memory has dropped huge recently, so the price maybe reasonable. But ofcourse the quality of the memory modules is the most important part of working fine with the computer. But if you see two companies with exactly the same memory expansion, the cheapest one is the best choice (if thye have at least an acceptable level of service / support).

Maybe pay a little more for better modules may be the best choice in the long run.

Good luck, Kees

I got mine from NewEgg for that price and it works fantastically so far. Noticed a huge difference right away. I think the 1 GB DIMMs have come down so far in price because 2 GB DIMMs have moved into the forefront.
