WPA password to Netgear router not working

I just did an erase & install on my wife's 12" Powerbook - old system was getting really draggy and messed up.

Now when I go to connect to our Netgear wireless router, I enter the password (I use the "Password" option as opposed to any of the bit-length encryption options for a WPA password, right?) and I get "there was an error joining the Airport network", and no connection.

Tried changing the password in the router and then connecting using that password - same problem.

Am I supposed to type some letters or something to indicate it's WPA? This is a non-apple router. But it's always worked before. Or I should say, we haven't had to re-enter the password since we set it up a year ago. Maybe there's a new trick, or something I've forgotten.

Help!

1. Choose WPA personal and enter your SSID and your WPA password.

2. You should not be using the router password.

If following these instructions does not work the first time, then try several more times. If you have no luck, then post back. My apologies if you are already following my suggestions exactly.

Ahh - there WAS no "WPA personal"! I thought installing off the Panther CD (10.3.1-ish) and combo-updating to 10.3.8 would update Airport, but I guess it didn't. Ran the separate Airport software update and lo and behold, there's WPA personal, and it now it all works just fine.

By router password, I mean the WPA password used to connect to the router, not the router admin password.

Anyway, thanks for getting me thinking in the right direction.
