Writing to my USB drives is very slow. Reading is normal.
My original Mac Book Pro with a new install of Snow Leopard is very slow copying to a USB drive from my laptop..3 different USB drives... 10gig available on 2 and one formatted fresh. 2 are FAT32 one Extended Journal. Copies from the same drives.. same file back to the laptop with no problem. Have reset PRAM/NVRAM and changed USB ports and have had no other USB devices attached at the time.
Writes to and reads from firewire drive with no problem. Googling revealed nothing that seemed to pertain to me. I don't recall it being as slow before the snow leopard install but I also wasn't using it to copy to a USB drive as much as I am now (new friend wants lots of movies).
It takes me about 5 minutes to copy a 700 Mb file from my computer to an external USB drive..( same on 3 different drives (and different cables by the way )) it takes about 30 seconds to copy the same file from the USB drive back to the computer.
Here's profile on one of the drives.
