Hi,

I have uninstalled fink and XDarwin to clean up my system abit, but that I am trying to set XDarwin again, it won't start. When I use startx from a terminal window, I got the following:

XFree86 Version 4.2.0 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)
Release Date: 18 January 2002
If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your hardware is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ)
Operating System: Darwin
Using keymapping provided in /System/Library/Keyboards/USA.keymapping.
_XSERVTransSocketUNIXCreateListener: ...SocketCreateListener() failed
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: server already running

Fatal server error:
Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already running
OsVendorFatalError
AbortDDX
Quitting XDarwin...
giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 61): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

And when I try to launch XDarwin, the application quits, and the message in the console is:

Release Date: 18 October 2002

Warning: no access to tty (Inappropriate ioctl for device).
Thus no job control in this shell.

Does someone sees what's the problem?

Arthur

That OSVendorFatalError sound a little suspect to me ... are you sure you didn't install or compile an i386 version of XFree86? If you obtained it through Fink or through the install package on Apple's downloads page, then you should be right.
