I think the 'blacklist' in Xslimmer is to avoid breaking software that will be damaged if you remove resources. One very common mentioned 'category' that breaks easily when inner resources are removed are Adobe apps.
What you need to understand is that some software is coded in such as way that removing random resources will cause problems with some apps - hence the blacklist in Xslimmer.
So, the part that gets removed in your Adobe Reader app, is something related to a valid install, and then you have to reinstall to use it again. So - you learn to avoid modifying Adobe apps. Another one that breaks is Microsoft Office 2008.
Anyway, the blacklist is not to prevent you from doing what you like - it's to keep you from making mistakes requiring reinstallation of software to fix.
