You don't exist---leave my address book!

A problem I am having with Mail, for which I am sure there is an easy answer. When I creat a new message and begin to key in the first letters of my addresse, Mail (nicely) begins to prompt me with possible recipients, based on the letters I key in. The problem lies in there being incorrect or not complete addresses that it wants to prompt me toward. EXAMPLE: Instead of Julie@xyz.com, it has Julie (with no @xyz.com, because of an earlier mis-key by me) How do I go about getting rid of bad addresses in my database. Thanks.

Mail uses the addresses from your addressbook app, so all you have to do is delete the wrong address from the addressbook.
And it also bases its shortnames on the names in the addressbook (ie. if you begin to write Julie, it will match it with a last name, if you have giver her one, and show the address between a < and a >, so you can be totally sure.

That doesn't solve the problem... and perhaps I didn't explain it as well before.

What has happened is that I tried to send an email to Julie@xyz.com, but wasn't really paying attention... all I wrote in the TO: line was 'Julie', at which point I then I tabbed to the subject line, wrote, the message area, wrote again, and then sent. All that was in the TO: was 'Julie', not 'Julie@xyz.com'.

Obviously my message came back. Now, 'Julie' (with no @xyz.com) still comes up as a valid email address ( along with 'Julie@xyz.com').... I want to be rid of 'Julie'. And it is not listed in my AddressBook app.

just type in the whole address and send a mail,
or add a person with that name in ur addressbook this might work, not sure.

BUT they mods ... this surely belongs to the
Mac OS X System & Software
forum. He's talking about the Mail app

This person does exist in my Address Book and I send them emails on a daily basis. This is not so problematic, but more of a wish to know how to correct it. But maybe curiosity is not enuf of a reason.

there are 2 databases

1 is the address book

2 is a list of all emails you've sent anything to. These are not in the address book, but is used to fill in names while you are typing.

I have no idea how to edit number 2.

Maybe if you add the messed up email to your address book as a new address with a fake name, then go to Mail and send an email to that fake address, then go back to address book and delete it, it might clear it.

Mail probably has a History List. Look for it in the Address book. It looks like a group book. Now you can select the name, then delete it.

Cheryl,
Your tip led me the right way. Under WINDOW there is ADDRESS HISTORY. I puld this window open, located the offending 'Julie' and deleted the entry. Now this bothersome name won't plaque me anymore. I should have looked a little harder. Thanks!
