You've seen it all before, I'm sure, but I think we need such a thread here:

Desert island, marooned, iPod etc. Which 5 albums would you absolutely have to have on your iPod to maintain your sanity?

1. Blackwater Park – Opeth
2. Damnation – Opeth
3. Viva Emptiness – Katatonia
4. Abducted – Hypocrisy
5. Pulse – Pink Floyd
 
That's difficult, selecting just 5... let's see...

But actually, I don't really listen to whole albums anymore. I've got so much music... When I buy a new album, I'll listen to it two or three times, then I start to put tracks I really like into playlists that they fit into. My car's got a CD changer, so I put together "mood"-based CDs for it in iTunes.

I suspect that all of us do that. iTunes has certainly transformed the way I listen to music, but I thought that 5 albums would be less taxing on the brain than, say your top 20 tracks. Or maybe not…
 
For those who still _do_ buy albums and _do_ remember the times of albums, I guess it's less taxing, yes... But at the fifth already, I thought that I'd actually put one together. And then remembered that I do so for the first four, too. :) I'm a TV child, I zap. ;)
 
For me, I have an easier time picking whole albums since they have a more fluid experience. I remember when the entire album was good music and had a cool start to finish vibe. Anymore, its 2-3 MTV friendly songs that can be singles with 10 junk tracks and call it an album.

Noone really makes true albums anymore I think.

i'm definately with the "not really an album person anymore" thing - i find a whole album of someone an overload and all sounds samey after a bit.

Aphex Twin - Richard D James Album

5 is nowhere near enough though.

Hmm… Since then, of course, Opeth have released a new album – Ghost Reveries:

So I guess I would have to replace one of the other albums in my list, probably Damnation
