Clicking on item in Inbox Mail does not open the item

I am a novice in the Mac world and need help with the following:
Clicking on a 'received' mail item in the Inbox does not open the mail.
I tried all the mouse buttons but no way.
We use a Mighty Mouse / OS X 10.4.6/ PowerMac G5
Please I shall need step-by-step guidance.

Have you tried double-clicking? Also, if you're on a slower connection (eg, dial-up), then it may take a few moments to a few minutes for the email to download and appear.
 
It's possible that the mail message preview pane has been dropped all the way to the bottom of the window. You should see a little dot at the bottom. Grab it and drag it up OR double-click on the button to regain access to the preview pane.

Otherwise, if it's something else, we need a little better description of what you're seeing. You might also try to REBUILD the mailbox (highlight the mailbox and choose Rebuild from the Mailbox menu.
