Hello Server specialists

Does anyone still know how to setup DNS under MAc OS X Server 10.3?
I need a running DNS Server to be able to use LDAP on my local NAT Network.
Here I stand on.

The following information is composed:
Local network behind NAT firewall
server name machilfe.local on IP 192.168.1.1
DNS server of the ISP are 195.186.1.162, 195.186.4.162
LDAP search machilfe dc =, dc = local

The configuration should be such that nslookup on machilfe.local does return IP 192.168.1.1.

How must DNS be setup to achieve this?
Did someone maybe have a documentary with some source of examples?

Thanks for your help and feedback

Kind regards

Wow, 10.3 - a while ago! I'll try my best, but... :)

(I'd be a bit concerned that your search base includes a blank entry...also, .local may cause some clash with zeroconf)

In Server Admin, you'll find a DNS service. You'll have to configure the settings in there. Create your Master zone. Create the forward and reverse pointers for your fully qualified domain name and the IP address associated. You'll want to point your server in System Preferences to the locally hosted DNS server (just plug in the IP) as well as your client machines.

Hope this helps get you started! It should at least give you a feel of where to look and what it's looking for. You can also look at resources for BIND, as IIRC Panther DNS = BIND. :)
