Download and preview my new OSX game!

Holmes

Humble God
Okay, so Raptor is to the point where I'd like to show you all just what I've been up to. Raptor is a top down, scrolling, arcade style plane game. Its carbon, so it will run in OSX or OS9. Although it runs faster in OS9, the shadows do not display correctly for some reason.

Features:
4 Levels (For now, soon to be more)
Anti-aliased and transparent graphics
A really mean boss at the end!
A variety of air enemies.
Cool particle and explosion effects.
Stereo sound

Future features:
Network play
More enemies and bosses
Many more levels

Known bugs:
Playing a new game after looking at "about" screen causes the small black planes to display incorrectly.
Beginings of levels sometimes display incorrectly.
Shadows display incorrectly in OS9.
Network Game doesn't work (not implimented yet)
Enemies may spawn that shouldn't be there.

Because of a bug (one thats not my fault) this game must run in hardware mode (uses GPU instead of CPU) or sprites will not work in OSX. As a result, a pretty good computer is necessary. I'd recommend a 500mhz G3 or better with a Radeon or GeForce 2 MX or better.

I'd love to hear some feedback from you guys!

Great game. Might I suggest a few improvements?

I want a level-setting menu
I want to know the objective. Is it destroying more enemies or surviving for the longest time(flying around)
When I pressed Quit I was brought to play yet another game. Losing that I came back to the menu and could successfully quit. Please fix...

Now to try the Network part

I agree about a the level setting menu, thats something I'm going to do. I'm also going to add an options menu in case you want to set the difficulty or change it from hardware to software mode (runs faster, but only works right on nVidia graphics cards or in OS9). Perhaps I'll give a little about the objective in the about menu. Bizarre about the quit bug...I've never seen that one before.

I'll be working on Network games pretty soon. It will take a lot to get networking to work. First of all I'll need a machine that I can network with. Secondly I've programmed the whole game to work with one player and now I have to change all the code to work with n players :(. In the end it'll be worth it though.

Thanks for the input!
