HELP! new Mac User

I can't get my Lexmark Z12 printer to work with my new emac. I just left the PC world but I'm taking my sad printer into the Mac world for now until I can afford to buy a nicer one. When I try to print it says that it is printing and it also says generic class waiting for device. And then it just keeps waiting and not printing does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Please help.

Did you select your printer ?
Was it recognized by the system ?

What version of the driver are you using on your machine and what OS are you running?

When I try to print it says that it's printing and it also says Generic Class waiting for device and then nothing happens. The Lexmark Z12 printer has been selected I think.

Last time I had that message, I was trying to address a network printer that was not available....

Therefore I would suggest you use the Print Centre (in Utilities folder) to check that you have control of your printer.

My emac runs on OSX I'm not sure what driver device was selected I'll go back and try to figure that out.

When I go to the print center my printer appears does that mean I have control over it?

I'm pulling my hair trying to figure this out I'll check the forum on Saturday to see if anyone has any insight.

The most recent version of the driver is 2.07, buth they only list compatibility with 10.2.6.

Hard to say with older printers as this one was discontinued in 2001.

Open Printer Setup Utility
Select your printer
Click the "Show Info" icon
Select "Printer Model" in the pop-up menu
See what driver is selected, and if necessary, try another one.

Is your printer network-connected, or USB, or what?
