I got the game Halo for mac on my new powerbook. and the "F" (F1 F2 F3...) keys have functions such as sound and all of that. But in halo for example you press F1 for the score but when I do it just dims the screen. So I was wondering if there is a key to hold when you press F1 to cancel its original function so you can use the key in the game.

there's a system preferece in the keyboard pref pane that lets you decide if you want the F key's for Hardware (sound, dimming etc) or software functions primarily.
