How to use a gmail account with mail on your mac

I have a gmail (google mail just like yahoo or hotmail) account and I just got a new powerbook. And i tried to use the gmail account with the mail application already installed on my comp. But it didnt work so I was wondering exactly wat do i do????
 
You need to correctly configure Mail to connect to gMail's servers in order to use the gMail account with Mail.

Open Mail's preferences, then click on "Accounts." Click the plus sign at the bottom to add a new account and select "POP" or "POP3" as the account type.

Under the first tab, "Account Information," enter the following:

Description: (whatever you like)
Email Address: (your full gMail address: whatever@gmail.com)
Full Name: (fill in if you like)
Incoming Mail Server: pop.gmail.com
User Name: (your full gMail address)
Password: (your gMail account password)
Outgoing Mail Server: (click "Server Settings..." then enter:
- Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
- Server port: 587
- Make sure "Use Secure Sockets Layer" is checked
- Authentication: Password
- User Name: (your full gMail address)
- Password: (your gMail account password)

Then click "OK"

That should do it.
 
it didnt work I tried that but when i try to send something it wont do it because it says gmails not alowing it
