I've got a large library (1.2 TB or so) and recently I've noticed that on certain songs (doesn't matter whether imported from CD or downloaded from Amazon or whatever), about two seconds after they start playing, I get the beachball of death. The song keeps playing, but once it's over, there is silence and the beachball for about 10 minutes, until finally iTunes unhangs and goes to the next song. This happens consistently with the same songs.
All my music is kept on an external drive, if that makes a difference.
Also, when I force quit while the program is hanging, upon reboot, iTunes takes about six minutes to deal with the library, whereas it usually takes maybe 10 seconds.
I'm running 10.5.7 with iTunes 8.2.1 on a MacBook.
Any thoughts or fixes? I can't be the only one with this problem.
