Just reformated the iPod, its icon doesnt show up!

Hi all,

I have just reformated my new 4th gen ipod (20 g), but noticed that when i connect it to my mac, its special icon that looks exactly like the ipod doesnt show up. I now get a different icon (ive attached a picture. How can i change it back to the old icon???

you formatted it so its not an ipod anymore, just a hard drive with some buttons on the outside

use ipod software updater
 
Yeah, next time you want to 'format' your iPod, simply download the latest iPod updater and use the Restore option. It will initialize (format) and install the latest iPod firmware on it.

MacOS X Disk Utility simply initialized the iPod HD.
 
I figured it out, thanks for the help.

One more question though... Why, when I connect the ipod, does its picture have a circle with a line through it on the screen (see attachment). What does this mean?

Caus' that is how it looks on the real thing. That is the do not disconnect screen that you should see on the iPod.
