Is there any software that makes it easy to construct a music compilation CD? Maybe something that would create a CDR image from multiple music CD sources? I'd like the result to be playable in a standard CD player.

Does iTunes suit your needs?
It will easily let you create a compilation audio CD from your own CDs, or other sources.
Create your custom song playlist, and then select that playlist, and click Burn.
The playlist stays, and you can burn another CD any time from that same playlist. Change out songs on the playlist, or create another playlist. It's all very easy to do....
