anyway, there is a petition that's best read, but here's a good quote:

Whether you are a Mac or a PC user, a novice or an expert, a professional or a hobbyist, I encourage you to at least spend some time thinking about file metadata. Focus on the fundamentals. Think big. File metadata touches almost every aspect of the daily computing experience. Even small improvements to the infrastructure can have far-reaching effects. Let's all work for a better tomorrow. I really don't want to have to explain file name extensions to my grandchildren...

if you never even have to exchange data between platforms, better even not at all, this would be a good idea.

form a group. and invent a filing system that can be adopted by every operating system. this could have a chance if it'd come out really good. but would microsoft adopt the 'standard'? i guess they'd invent a slightly different (almost compatible) one that they would promote as 'better'.

file meta data is a nice idea. but let's NOT make the mac an island again. we're connected.
