Outlook 2001 under Classic & Entourage X

I am in an environment where Entourage X connects to an exchange server and recieves mail fine but cannot send. However that is not my question.

Until recently Outlook 2001 has run well in the dreaded Classic mode. Recently however, upon launch it reports a set of folders could not be opened. An extensive check of all folders and files used by Outlook had found there are no privilage issues causing the problem. As further proof the same result occurs logged on as root.

Any thoughts on the issue?
 
The set of folders it is reporting that it can't use are probably your folders on the Exchange server, not your local machine. I got this error a lot of times trying to connect to an Exchange server through Outlook running in Classic mode when Outlook had trouble connecting.
