Pages behavior.

I'm using Pages 4.1 on Lion 10.7.2 and have encountered a couple of bizarre (to me) items.

  1. When I open a document that I haven't touched for a while, Pages advises me it is locked and offers to unlock it so I can make changes. Well, OK, but I got along without this before. Is there a way to turn it off?
  2. For some documents, not all, it decides to save changes before I have a chance to "save as" a new document. In fact, "save as" isn't even there anymore. It's "duplicate". Anyhow, this has bitten me more than once, leading to desperate wandering in Time Machine to retrieve overwritten files.
Are these "features" I wasn't expecting? Or more personal problems as usual?
