"sorry.google.com" - what remedy on a Mac?

Multiple browsers I use on my Mac are affected. I've read that entire networks are affected as well. My Google searches are frequently re-directed to this page where I've to verify that there's a human behind the query.
I've tried clearing browser cache and deleting cookies to no avail. I primarily use Camino and Firefox and both are equally affected. Searches that are re-directed to this page can range from technical queries to do with SQL syntax errors to the mundane e.g. 'La Primavera'
What else can I do to lessen/get rid of re-directs to this page?

The case of entire networks being affected was reported on the Mozilla discussion forum. happened in the US - an entire school district was affected I think. I'm an individual user - are there any tools I can use to check for malware on a Mac?

I usually initiate my searches by typing whatever I'm looking for in my browser's search field and I've customised it to use google. If I use the above URL I get to google.com and when I perform my search I'm not re-directed to sorry.google.com. However this does not necessarily mean my problem is solved because I've had short episodes in the past where I'll see my results w'out being re-directed then the nuisance rears its ugly head.

It's possible that your DNS servers were changed by some sort of social engineering malware, although it's unlikely.

You can check by looking in your DNS entries in the System Preferences, under "Network," under your network connection, under "DNS Server:". If you see an entry there that you know is not right or that you didn't put there, remove it and replace it with a valid DNS server entry, or no entry at all if that works for you.

Nope, no funny DNS entries...strangely I am not moved to condemn y'all who've suggested I'm a porn site aficionado LOL! Anything specific for 10.3.9 that I could check?
So it could be traffic volume. But I always get these re-directs at whatever time of the day.

Then use the service OpenDNS and see if that makes a difference.
