Symbolic link to old volume

I just changed my server and have copied over all my files. But for example in Quark, the images inserted in a document have absolute paths to the files. Since my new server have another volume-name, I must manually update all resources. Is there anyway I can trick this so the paths will work on the new volume?

I tried ln -s /Volumes/New-volume/ /Volumes/New/old-volume but it did not work...

I had a similar problem when copying a project from a server to my Mac. The quickest way I found was to drop the Quark file into the images folder, update links in usage and re-save the Quark file to the desired location. A pain I know but the best fix I could find.
