I have a headset that has a built-in mic. This works it is old. I cannot get the mic to work. The earphones work OK. I have been into the System Preferences > Sound and still it will not work in Skype.

I downloaded Audio Recorder 3.1 and it will not work with that either.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Recent Macs do not have a Mic jack or an audio jack that includes a third ring for a headset with a built in mic.

If an iMac or Macbook/Pro it should have a built in mic with the camera. MacPros and MacMini's would need an iSight Camera which includes a built in microphone. You could also purchase a USB headset or get the Griffin Audio input adapter which is usb and has a plug for microphones.

The manual is confusing because it says:
Audio in / optical digital audio in port.
Connect your Mac mini to a line-level microphone or digital audio equipment.
I thought that line-level was like the separate Mic that I have. So to be clear I have tested the headset with the Mic Combo. And I have tested a Mic only and neither work.
So I believe you must be correct but I don't understand the manual. It is misleading.
