I have a first generation MBP running 10.5.8. I am also using an Airport Extreme base station with the latest firmware. How can I discover which network channel my MBP is using, 2.4 or 5 Ghz?

Well built in you can launch /Applications/Utilities/System Profiler (or just hold down the 'option' key while mouse clicking on the Apple symbol in the top left hand corner, System Profiler will be in the drop-down). In System Profiler highlight the word "Airport Card" and is the channel is more then a teen number you are using the N signal. Plus if you launch /Applications/Utilities/Airport Utility and in there click on the "Manual Setup" button. When the "Manual" window comes up click on the word (in the right hand window) click on the word "Wireless Clients" and a window will come up with a client graph showing you what wireless frequencies are being used by what device.

Plus you can download the free iStumbler and see all the networks you can see with all the information you want.

Is that enough for you?
