thanks for all the tips. What if I don't have a domain name associated with my machine/network? Is is possible to use an IP address? Will the outgoing mail be rejected as non-qualified or whatever? All I want to do is send the occasional piece of generated email from a perl program.

Anyone found or built a free OSX newsreader yet? MT Newswatcher 3.0 is the only reason I have to load up Classic any more. I would love to avoid Classic completely. I prefer to use a stand-alone newsreader rather than encouraging bloat in a web browser. Thanks.

The GIMP is free! GPL'd even. I have not looked at the latest versions of GC but last time I checked it did not support layers, which is reason enough to not bother with it. And then there is the GIMP's script-fu which lets the user write their own scripts for calling built-in procedures...

How about including version numbers when we talk about Mozilla. Mozilla 0.9.2 is a huge improvemnet over 0.9.1 (on both OSX and Linux). 0.9.1 was the first version I considered to be good enough for daily use. Oddly enough - the only trouble I've had with 0.9.2 is right here in this forum...

In a moment of weakness I bought Flash 5. It worked ok as I worked though some built in lessons, but ever since it has been crashy as can be. It brings down the whole of Classic when it goes south. I have not added or removed any other software since I installed Flash 5. Is it just me...

Ok - that works. The ftp server at sente.ch is back up. I was able to hook up Goban with GNUgo easily. Goban is very, uh, tall, however. I have a tiny little 15 inch monitor. Goban does not seem to scale to 800 X 600. At that resolution the largest whole board I could get on my display...
