    Aqua X window manager

Our friends at Apple frown upon this. See: <http://iwsun4.infoworld.com/articles/op/xml/01/06/11/010611opfoster.xml>

    The BIG OS 10.2 thread...

    1. I would really love the ability to disable or remap the F12 - Media Eject function. I have the original Apple USB Keyboard, which everyone hated for having tiny keys. I've actually gotten used to it and I kind of like it. (And the absence of a power key on the replacement version is...

    SSH issues on 10.1

I can only report my anecdotal experience, but after running Apple's "Security Update 10-19-01" my ssh problems seem to be fixed. Just to review - I was unable to connect to _some_ remote hosts via ssh after I had updated OS X to 10.1. I had modified my ssl and ssh configuration previous to...

    SSH issues on 10.1

Thanks for the suggestions. I was having the same "built against...[ssl stuff]" problems after upgrading to 10.1. I do recall messing around with ssl and ssh because I was having trouble connecting to a certain remote host (the problem was on their end - I could could connect to several...

    H2 get sendmail working

thanks for all the tips. What if I don't have a domain name associated with my machine/network? Is is possible to use an IP address? Will the outgoing mail be rejected as non-qualified or whatever? All I want to do is send the occasional piece of generated email from a perl program.

    what a nice mail.app!

wah! I had totally forgotten about that thing. It was totally great. What was apple thinking when they dropped that?

    newsreader?

It never occured to me to use a cli app. Brilliant. Thanks. I used gnus for a while with Xemacs - not in OSX. The settings for like, where your newserver is are in your .emacs file or some kind of .newsrc? And if so, would you mind posting the relevant snippets? thanks!

    newsreader?

Anyone found or built a free OSX newsreader yet? MT Newswatcher 3.0 is the only reason I have to load up Classic any more. I would love to avoid Classic completely. I prefer to use a stand-alone newsreader rather than encouraging bloat in a web browser. Thanks.

    Photoshop & OSX?

The GIMP is free! GPL'd even. I have not looked at the latest versions of GC but last time I checked it did not support layers, which is reason enough to not bother with it. And then there is the GIMP's script-fu which lets the user write their own scripts for calling built-in procedures...

Mozilla dowloads in a modal window!

How about including version numbers when we talk about Mozilla. Mozilla 0.9.2 is a huge improvemnet over 0.9.1 (on both OSX and Linux). 0.9.1 was the first version I considered to be good enough for daily use. Oddly enough - the only trouble I've had with 0.9.2 is right here in this forum...

    Flash 5 crashy

oh. macromedia has released an updater. 5.0a seems to be working fine so far. http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/downloads/5a_updater.html

    Flash 5 crashy

In a moment of weakness I bought Flash 5. It worked ok as I worked though some built in lessons, but ever since it has been crashy as can be. It brings down the whole of Classic when it goes south. I have not added or removed any other software since I installed Flash 5. Is it just me...

    GNUGo?

Ok - that works. The ftp server at sente.ch is back up. I was able to hook up Goban with GNUgo easily. Goban is very, uh, tall, however. I have a tiny little 15 inch monitor. Goban does not seem to scale to 800 X 600. At that resolution the largest whole board I could get on my display...
