Saving Excel files on a 2003 Server

I saw this under the list of 'reasons to upgrade to 10.4.7' on the Apple site: - sharing using AFP, SMB/CIFS, NFS and FTP file sharing protocols - reliable access to Open Directory, LDAP and Active Directory services - login and authentication in a variety of network environments - file...

    Batch change of extension

Shareware prog SkoobyRenamer will be of benefit here - (and in a multitude of other situations too :-).

Phantom files on my hard drive?

You may be 'looking' for files which are by default invisible. A free download from http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/download.html will allow you to turn 'invisables' on or off. Alternatively, since I use PathFinder ( http://www.cocoatech.com/ ), it does a recursive list from the point...

Entourage crashing when trying to change fonts

Is this on an Intel Mac? I have no problems with this on a G4 with Entourage (latest patch), but have the same issue as you when on an Intel iMac (same version of Entourage). Fonts are 'au naturale', and haven't yet traced it - but currently thinking it's a PPC vs Intel problem, and if so, is...

User logons fails on second attempt

Thanks Michael - nice to 'see' you again :-) Just to be clear, you're suggesting the command: killall -USR2 DirectoryService to be run on the workstation whilst in single user mode? Could you be kind enough to give me pointer as to what I may be looking for? (apologies for the delayed response...

User logons fails on second attempt

Situation: 10.3.9 server running as ODM and hosting user homes. Various mac clients, all on 10.3.9 and have been successfully authenticating and working happily for a good 2 years. Recently, if a user logs off (say at night) and then tries to log on again in the morning, they'll get the SSBBD...

Saving Excel files on a 2003 Server

Funnily enough... reading other stuff, I came across this, whilst it doesn't mention MS Server specifically, it might help RobertZ?? http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/office2004/topic2741.html#apr19

Saving Excel files on a 2003 Server

Wondering if the recent 10.4.6 update and also 11.2.3 for Office made any difference to this situation? Just a thought

some site wont work - help!!

Good call fryke. Peer Vanguard is an IP blocker by the looks of it. This is from a site (from Google): On OS X, (Or any free BSD system) you can block connections by using ipfw. The built in ipfw is painfully slow at adding ips though, so we'll download PeerVanguard which includes ipfwFast...

some site wont work - help!!

This is a bit wierd. 194.168.8.100 comes up with the name 'cache2.ntli.net'- I assume that ntli is your ISP? On the basis that you can see some sites and not others, and assuming that your friends have similar settings, then I think we'll turn our attentions to the Mac: I think we need to make...

some site wont work - help!!

Ahh. Something is stopping you specifically to that site (and probably the others). Just to be sure , try the same technique to a site you know works (you should get a reply from the ping as per my previous mail) - let me know this is OK. So I can point you in the right direction, please open...

some site wont work - help!!

Confuddling :( - BTW, I've just checked www.apple.com and it's up and running. Let's be clear here, you have internet access to certain websites but not others, and that your friends are happy? Can you (in Terminal) ping www.apple.com ? You should get; ping www.apple.com PING...

hello again! OK what about the system and console log? I assume it just trys and fails as opposed to something crashing? Have you got OS X firewall on? if so, try turning it off? Ensure that DNS is working forwards and backwards pls. ATB
