why would one want to lug around a tablet with spotty handwriting regcognition when lugging around a laptop takes just as much space/weight and it has a keyboard?

You aren't going to get great color from a desktop scanner when scanning negatives. If they are important, you may want to send em out to be drum scanned.
Printer families, i think, are not defined by similar model numbers (eg 640/740). I *think* a clue to printers of the same family can be found with printer cartridges. The only one I have in front of me is for the:

Allow me to clarify:
CompUSA CDs WITHOUT a pre printed label on them are good. Always have had luck with them.
however
CompUSA CD's WITH a pre-printed label (black and red label) don't work for crap.... go figure.
but shit, I'll play safe and just blame it on a crappy burner... :P...
PNY tech for me, mainly because my crappy Zip 650 is very picky about the brand CDR I use... go figure. PNY's work great for me, no coasters yet. (well maybe one or two due to my screwup..)

You are probably right (and that office deal IS a good deal.... things that make me go hmmmm) I think it really depends on the environment you are working in. If you are in an office environment then owning....office should be a requirement...
No, I define my mother as the average mac user, and she sure as shit don't need to blow 600 dollars on no MS office. She types her letters in Appleworks, prints and mails them. She can open the few MS office files that she gets from email forwards in Appleworks.
