finally got it sorted. there was a bad ram card that had corrupted the hard drive. put in my old 256 ram cards and a 160 gig hard drive I had in an enclosure (reformatted) and all is working now.
I will send the ram back to OWC and see what they can do for me and start putting things back...
finally got it sorted out. it seems I had a bad RAM card that corrupted my hard drive. I replaced the ram with old ram (I had upgraded to max), replaced the hard drive with my backup, and then rebooted successfully.
Now I send the ram back to OWC and let them troubleshoot the cards and get...
so far no luck even getting into user mode. I am off to see a mac-tech friend and see if he has any luck. I will post when I return.

I have the same problem, only now, after trying to reboot with the DVD, it is stuck and wont load. I get this:
